SAMBA

Southern Arizona Mountain Biking Association

Come ride with us through the high desert country of Southern Arizona.

SAMBA is a recreational mountain biking club whose members come from all walks of life. We generally do a couple of organized mountain bike rides a week in the mountains or desert around Tucson. We lead rides into some of the most beautiful and remote country on earth. In the summer we ride in the early morning and early evening, and do a number of night rides by moonlight or with lights. The desert is spectacularly beautiful at night --perhaps even more than during the day. We have a ride list of over one hundred rides. Some of our favorites are in the Patagonia mountains and the area south and east or west of Sonoita, including the Canelo Hills as far east as Parker Canyon Lake. We do a ride in the Huachuca Mountains outside of Sierra Vista, and numerous rides on the north and west sides of the Catalina Mountains, in the Tortolita Mountains, and in the Reddington Pass area. We maintain the trails on top of Mt Graham, and do a couple of camping trips there each year for riding and trail maintainance. We also do regular camping trips to Flagstaff and the White Mountains, and often make trips to Moab. In May we will have a trip to Utah in which we will explore areas of SW Utah around St. George and Goosebury Mesa.

Our objective is to promote the enjoyment of mountain biking and nature; to protect and enhance mountain biking opportunities; and to support environmentally and socially responsible use of the land. We're a non-profit organization of people who enjoy mountain biking. We offer rides suited to varied skill levels, and encourage beginners to become one with their bike. Non-members and new mountain bikers are welcome. For your own safety, you should be sure that your bike is well-maintained, that you're familiar with its operation, and that you're fit enough to ride at least 15 miles. Helmets are required on all SAMBA rides. Call the ride leader if you'd like to discuss whether a ride is appropriate for you. If you haven't spent much time on the trail, be sure to call our info line (323-0571) or the ride leader (as listed on the schedule).
